Last week, a Franklin County judge denied a request to temporarily block a new law that allows state agencies to accept applications to drill for oil and gas in state parks, according to Cleveland.com.
Common Pleas Judge Kimberly Cocroft denied a request by environmental advocates for a temporary restraining order, which would have blocked the new law from taking effect.
Cocroft cited several factors in her ruling that she said indicate there’s no risk of imminent and irreparable harm if she allows the law to stand as the case proceeds. She noted public comments by Gov. Mike DeWine and other state officials that no leases would be signed in the immediate future, as well as the fact the plaintiffs only recently filed suit even though DeWine signed the law in January.
