Lack of pipeline infrastructure still affecting natural gas prices in Ohio Valley

Shale Play Ohio Valley reports that the growth of natural production is believed by some to be the reason for the loss of coal mining jobs, but U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito  says there is room for both coal and natural gas.

U.S. shale drillers produced record amounts of natural gas in September, but a lack of pipelines continues to be an issue for companies who need to move it to markets.

Ohio and West Virginia producers have sold natural gas for less than $1 per 1,000 cubic feet. On the New York Mercantile Exchange, the same size unit of natural gas is selling for $2. There are five pipeline projects on the table that would help to move the gas and increase prices, and there are also possible ethane cracker projects that would be built in the Ohio Valley.
