One company has discovered a way to decrease the number of natural gas storage wells needed at a Michigan storage field while still holding the same amount of natural gas.
Livingston Daily reports that Southwest Gas is adopting this strategy instead of using three vertical wells to get to the storage reservoir.
The decrease in the number of storage wells helps the natural gas removal process as well as leaving less of an impression on the environment. Also, it reduces the amount of time needed to deposit natural gas into the storage wells.
From Livingston Daily:
“The company is in its third year of the project, which caps existing vertical wells and drills horizontally into the natural gas storage reservoir, which stretches across Howell, Marion and Genoa Townships.”
