Local zoning boards and the Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania once again have the authority to establish zoning rules for shale drilling.
According to The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the ruling addresses several issues related to what oil and gas companies can and cannot do. For instance, consistent regulations for land-use as well as environmental laws were put in place.
Another part of the ruling includes impact fees that well owners will pay for new drilling sites. The money from the impact fees will be shared among local communities and will help to regulate drilling.
