As co-owner of the existing 795-mile Centennial pipeline that runs from the Gulf Coast to Central Illinois, Marathon is continuing to work on reversing its flow to move liquids from north to south.
The company indicated it could connect the pipeline to the Marcellus and Utica shales through re-purposing existing pipelines, according to Kallanish Energy.
Due to federal regulations on clean air, Marathon is also considering building an alkylate plant in the Appalachian Basin, which would intern increase demand for butane.
The Centennial reversal is expected to take about two years total and move 100,000 barrels per day once pump stations are reversed and added.
