Marcellus shale may be largest US gas field, but production is slowing down

Reuters reports that while a fifth of the United States’ natural gas supply comes from the Marcellus shale, the drilling boom is over.

Industry and government predictions for next year were that production would increase, but Reuters says that other data predicts a slump.

The number of rigs operating in the Marcellus shale dropped from 76 in September to 68 in October. Gas prices have dropped and drilling companies are holding back on production already. Some companies have cut staff to make up for money lost in production.
