Denver-based MarkWest Energy Partners LP and Findley-based MPLX will work together to develop Marcellus and Utica shale projects, according to Pittsburgh Business Times. The companies joined together in November.

MarkWest is involved in the midstream portion of the industry, processing gas produced in the Marcellus and Utica. MPLX is a master-limited partnership and pipeline division formed by Marathon Petroleum Corp.

The source reports that MarkWest and Marathon could team up their respective natural gas liquids experience and refining and distribution capabilities, potentially for a facility that would convert butane to alkylate, which is blended into gasoline.
