The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission authorized Equitrans Midstream Corp. to resume construction of its 2-bcfd Mountain Valley natural gas pipeline project, according to Oil & Gas Journal.
The FERC noted the Mountain Valley Pipeline is authorized to proceed with construction in the Jefferson National Forest and all remaining waterbody crossings.
The natural gas pipeline project had originally received its certificate of public convenience and necessity on Oct. 13, 2017. The most recent request for FERC approval was made on June 26, 2023, following an extensive legal process.
The 303-mile pipeline is 94% complete. Upon completion, it will carry natural gas from Wetzel County, W. Va., to Transcontinental Pipe Line Co. LLC’s Compressor Station 165 in Pittsylvania County, Va.
