The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register reports that natural gas production in West Virginia’s northern panhandle has tripled since 2012.

Statistics from the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey indicate that the total production in Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, Brooke, Tyler and Hancock counties in 2012 was 123.8 billion cubic feet of natural gas. In those counties in 2013, production totaled 244.4 Bcf and in 2014, 346.7 Bcf was produced in those six counties.

West Virginia Oil and Gas Association Executive Director Corky Demarco stated that production will likely flatten out because of low prices. Demarco also noted that pipeline systems and the upcoming opening of a natural gas export facility in Maryland will help to get gas to markets.
