Last March, a judge ruled that oil and gas wells could be drilled in Broadview Heights, but to date there have been no new permit applications.
The Plain Dealer reports that Bass Energy Inc., a company that has drilled over a dozen wells in Broadview Heights in the past, isn’t planning on drilling any more wells in the city. Bass Energy President Bill Hlavin said that opposition from anti-fracking residents, coupled with low oil and gas prices, have led the company to drilling in areas where drilling is supported.
According to the newspaper, Bass Energy was granted permits to drill wells on acreage owned by St. Sava Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church in Broadview Heights in 2007. The company drilled three wells before a 2012 Community Bill of Rights banned future wells. However, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources allowed Bass to drill a fourth well on St. Sava land in 2013.
