ODNR issues six permits in Utica shale

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued six permits for new horizontal wells in eastern Ohio’s Utica shale during the week ended April 14, according to the Youngstown Business Journal.

The permits were awarded to Ascent Resources Utica LLC for four wells in Jefferson County, while Gulfport Energy secured two permits to drill two wells in Belmont County. As of April 14, there are 2,804 permits issued, 2,319 wells drilled and 1,883 wells in production across Ohio’s Utica shale.

The ODNR did not issue any new permits in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties during that same week.
