Oil and gas activity picks up in Appalachian Basin

According to an analysis by an Ohio-based energy consultant, oil and natural gas development picked up in the Appalachian basin in 2017. Nearly 2,300 drilling permits were issued in the three-state region and 1,036 wells were spudded, reports Kallanish Energy.
The increased activity included 1,377 permits being issued in Pennsylvania, 462 in Ohio and 459 in West Virginia during 2017, according to research by Timothy Knobloch, president of James Knobloch Petroleum Consultants in Marietta.
Those numbers were up from 2016 when there were 1,178 permits issued in Pennsylvania in 2016, 267 in Ohio and 246 in West Virginia, and only 771 wells were spudded.
