Oil and gas industry splits support for presidential candidates

Hillary Clinton has only received a slightly larger campaign contribution from the oil and gas industry than Donald Trump, according to Reuters.

Since clinching the nominations of their respective parties, Clinton has received $114,141 and Trump has received $99,302 from oil and gas industry employees. The nearly even support suggests mixed feelings throughout the industry.

Incidentally, the stances of the candidates are just as divided. Clinton advocates more environmental protections and more renewables. Trump calls for a drastic reduction in regulations to bolster drilling.

Although Clinton’s pro-regulation stance could hurt, Trump’s lack of a track record has some weary of his level of understanding when it comes to the issues.

During the primaries, Clinton far exceeded Trump in campaign contributions. However, Republican donations were split between a larger number of candidates.
