The price of oil may remain under $50 per barrel for a while, but that doesn’t mean producers are giving up.

According to The Wall Street Journal, drillers are producing more crude oil than ever in the Permian Basin. The Permian Basin is located in West Texas, stretching from south of Lubbock to south of Midland. The play reaches into southeastern New Mexico.

Domestic oil production peaked in April. Since the last count in August, the seven major shale plays as a whole have produced 274,000 barrels a day fewer than the peak in April. Between April and December, oil production in the Permian increased by 64,000 barrels a day.
