Although Pennsylvania’s natural gas drilling rigs have remained steady for a second consecutive week, the total is down from a year ago, according to the Pittsburgh Business Times.
Baker Hughes reported 25 drilling rigs are operating in Pennsylvania for the second week in a row. While the week-to-week data is steady, year-over-year it shows a big decline in production. At this time in January 2020, 48 rigs were operating in Pennsylvania.
The declining rig count is attributed to lower prices for natural gas, which has led to drilling cuts.
During the same week, Ohio and West Virginia also remained steady with 10 rigs and 16 rigs, respectively. Ohio is down seven year-over-year, but West Virginia is up one from a year ago.
