The impact of Marcellus Shale drilling on Pennsylvania’s forests has been the subject of The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources reports.
According to StateImpact Pennsylvania, DCNR recently released an update to its 2014 report. The update states that the bulk of Marcellus drilling takes place in seven forest areas. These areas include Sproul, Susquehannock, Elk, Moshannon, Tioga, Loyalsock and Tiadaghton. In these areas, more than 1,600 forested acres have been turned into non-forest acres.
StateImpact Pennsylvania also reports that DCNR has attempted to encourage development near places that have already been developed. Also, land reclamation is being discussed for companies once they are finished working in the state’s forested areas.
