Chesapeake Energy is having a rough month.
Now the energy company is on the defense in civil court.
The Times Online reported that a Beaver County, PA, municipality and two of its supervisors are participating in a civil suit this month against the energy giant.
17 plaintiffs filed suit on June 7 in Beaver County Court against Chesapeake and its subsidiaries.
Here’s an excerpt:
The suit contends that Chesapeake has made no effort to produce natural gas from any of the properties leased between 2003 and 2007, and alleges that Chesapeake is employing leases that were fraudulently obtained by O&G, an Ohio-based firm.
The plaintiffs are asking the court to nullify the leases.
This isn’t the only lawsuit of this nature that Chesapeake is currently involved in. The company is the defendant of a federal civil suit filed by residents of Darlington Township who have made similar accusations.
