Last week, the Delaware River Basin Commission voted to ban gas drillers from dumping fracking wastewater in the Delaware River watershed and to make it difficult for them to take freshwater out, according to The Washington Post.
The vast watershed includes portions of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Delaware. The commission’s new regulations have been designed to limit the gas industry from drawing water from the Delaware River and its tributaries as well as banning the disposal of drilling wastewater within the watershed.
The commission’s vote was 4-0, which included the governors of the four basin states or their designees. The federal government’s representative abstained from voting.
