Rice Energy will potentially acquire 27,400 undeveloped acres in Greene County, Pennsylvania, through a stalking horse asset purchase agreement with a subsidiary of Alpha Natural Resources, Inc., according to Observer-Reporter.

Along with the undeveloped acreage, Rice would acquire another 3,200 acres that are already owned in fee to the company, as well as 23,500 net acres of Utica rights.

The source reports that the purchase agreement would give Rice acreage that’s adjacent to its existing developed Marcellus shale acreage.
