Pittsburgh Business Times reports that Baker Hughes released its latest rig count July 24. An overview of the oilfield service company’s rig count can be found here.
As of July 24, there were 20 rigs operating in Ohio, 44 in Pennsylvania and 18 in West Virginia. In the Utica Shale, a total of 23 rigs were in operation as of July 24, down 22 from a year ago. In the Marcellus Shale, there are currently 59 drilling rigs. In 2014, there were 78.
A year ago, Ohio had 20 rigs, Pennsylvania had 53 and West Virginia had 27. Overall in the United States, the number of rigs dropped from 1,883 in July 2014 to 876 today.
