Shell’s Beaver County plant generates electricity to the grid

Shell’s natural gas cogeneration facility, built to power its petrochemical plant in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, created electricity from each of its three units and distributed power to the PJM Interconnection regional electrical grid for the first time, according to the Pittsburgh Business Times.

The natural gas steam cogeneration plant on site will produce enough energy to power the site and generate about 80 megawatts daily that will go to the grid.

The company started work on the project in 2016. It’s currently about 80% complete.

Maybe. It depends on your particular lease agreement. Some companies allow property owners a yearly free gas allowance. But, the process of connecting your property to the gas source may be more complicated. Some companies will provide a hookup, others require the landowner to provide one.
