Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that Southwestern Energy Co. is eliminating 40 percent of its workforce.

Based in Houston, Texas, Southwestern Energy is cutting 200 positions in Northeast Pennsylvania and in the Utica and Marcellus areas in the southwest part of the state. Other jobs will be cut in Houston and in Arkansas’s Fayetteville shale.

According to the newspaper, Southwestern was one of Pennsylvania’s top shale gas producers. Now, with prices the lowest they’ve been in years, Southwestern is hoping to remain competitive after the cuts.
