Upstream oil and gas employment in Texas rose by 5,100 jobs month-over-month to 181,900, according to the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association. The increase represented 20,700 additional positions year-over-year, also.
February’s month-over-month growth is more than four times January’s growth — 1,200 additional jobs from December to January.
The Texas Oil and Gas Association (TXOGA) called the recent growth “the highest spike in over a decade and the second-highest jump in at least 32 years,” second to only the 5,600-job gain in June 2011.
