Natural gas producers and their trade associations have largely welcomed the proposed stricter regulations on methane emissions that were announced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency last week, according to Pittsburgh Business Times.
The proposed regulations would place tougher limits on methane leaks from oil and gas production, which includes new wells and pipelines and existing wells and infrastructure.
Under the new restrictions, Marcellus and Utica Shale gas producers would fare better than many other oil and gas producers in the United States as they rarely flare gas like producers in other basins, and many producers have either set net zero emissions goals or have them in the works.
