SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Penn State Cooperative Extension will be holding a workshop, Understanding Shale Gas Exploration and Development Oct. 8 at the Advanced Technology and Science Hall, Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Speakers include Dan Brockett, Susan Boser and Jon Laughner, Penn State Extension educators; and Ross Pifer, director of the Agricultural Law Resource and Reference Center, Penn State University Dickenson School of Law.

With the increased interest by natural gas exploration companies in the tri-county area and the potential for “wet gas,” many landowners are being asked to sign and renegotiate shallow leases.

Topics

Discussion will include shale gas leasing and legal issues in northwestern Pennsylvania, gas drilling and water quality and shale gas economics. A question and answer period will follow the discussion.

Contact the Venango County Extension office to register to attend at 814-437-7607.

Participants will have a greater understanding of the shale gas exploration impacts on leasing, water quality and economics, and the needs to address as a landowner and community member with property held in the area.
