Across the U.S. gas prices have risen by nearly 50 cents a gallon over the last month, according to The New York Times.
Gas prices in California — the highest in the U.S. — have increased to more than $6 a gallon. Everywhere else they have increased to over $4 a gallon.
The most immediate cause for the jump in prices is the ongoing war in Ukraine as global refiners, tanker companies and traders shun Russian exports, removing up to three million barrels of oil a day from the market.
The other reason for the price jump, amid geopolitical pressures, is that demand has remained consistent within the U.S.
