U.S. natural gas production is expected to reach record levels by the end of the year, eclipsing 100 billion cubic feet per day, according to Rested Energy’s recent analysis.
Production growth from the Haynesville Shale, Appalachian Basin and Permian Basin will solidify the U.S. as the world’s largest gas producer.
The Marcellus, Utica and Haynesville shales are expected to have the biggest impact on increased natural gas production. However, growth in the Marcellus and Utica plays is dependent on the progress of the proposed Mountain Valley Pipeline, which still faces regulatory hurdles. Haynesville production is expected to grow 2.6 Bcfd this year compared to 2021, increasing annual output to more than 14 Bcfd.
