The U.S. rig count rose by six during the week ended Sept. 15, bringing the total to 635, according to the latest data released by Enverus.

The latest rig count marks the highest level of oil-focussed activity since the week ended April 8, 2020. However, rig counts remain 27% behind pre-pandemic levels seen in early March 2020.

The Eagle Ford and SCOOP-STACK basins added two rigs to total 50 and 34, respectively, enabling them to reach 17-month highs also. The Permian Basin also added two rigs to total 260. All other oil-focused basins remained steady.

Leading the way for natural-gas-focused basins, the Marcellus Shale and Haynesville Basin rose by two rigs apiece to total 34 and 52 active rigs, respectively. The Utica Shale remained unchanged at 12 rigs.
