Utica Shale permits reach 2,000 in Ohio

Columbus Business First reports that 2,002 horizontal well permits have been issued in Ohio’s Utica Shale. More than 500 permits have been issued since last August.

According to data from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Oil and Gas Resources, 1,588 horizontal wells have been drilled and 1,004 horizontal wells are producing as of Sept. 5.

There are currently 21 rigs operating in Ohio’s Utica Shale, down from 45 a year ago.
