A former steel site will soon become a storage yard and railroad line for the Utica Shale.
The Massillon Independent reports that at the old Republic Steel location in Massillon, Ohio, Republic Short Line will have rail delivery service as well as a storage yard for 600 miles of natural gas pipeline that will be used across Ohio, Michigan and Canada.
Part of the 460-acre site has already been cleared and the company plans to begin delivering Feb. 1. There is potential for other businesses to use the rail line as a storage hub.
The company has spent nearly $4 million to update 3.5 miles of existing rail line and build three new one-mile long stretches of rail. The three miles of new rail will connect with Norfolk Southern’s line to the north and to R.J. Corman Railroad Group’s line to the south.
