Utica Shale’s oil region could be next drilling hotspot

The Vindicator reports that if oil companies adapt their drilling approaches, the number of drillers in the Utica shale’s oil region could increase.

Houston’s EnerVest has discovered that using more sand and water will be beneficial for fracking oil. Also, decreasing the space between injections in the oil field should improve returns.

Trumbull and Stark Counties are thought to contain a large amount of oil, but so far there aren’t any companies that have experienced success by tapping into this oil. Enervest’s oil well tests will determine if returns and profits will be great enough to continue drilling there.

While EverVest is looking to explore the northern Utica, other companies are deciding that returns are not doing well enough to continue operations in the area.
