A natural gas utility has connected to its natural gas distribution system to a Utica Shale well in Pennsylvania, making it the state’s first, according to Akron Beacon Journal.

UGI Utilities, Inc. connected a high pressure pipeline to a Utica well and two Marcellus wells in Tioga County, located in northern Pennsylvania. The connection will supply about 14,000 dekatherms of natural gas daily into UGI’s system, which could supply 50,000 in the company’s service area annually.

Over 70 percent of natural gas distributed by the company is produced in the Marcellus Shale.
