The future of shale oil and natural gas is uncertain, but towns are preparing for what’s to come by implementing oil and gas production laws.
Observer-Reporter reports that in Washington County, Pennsylvania, the Smith Township Planning Commission met with Range Resources and MarkWest Energy Partners representatives July 14 to discuss amendments to township zoning provisions as well as standards and regulations for the oil and gas industry. In May, natural gas processing facilities were classified as conditional use in the township.
MarkWest has applied to build a processing plant in Smith Township to keep up with the company’s growth in the area. The processing plant would clean natural gas and produce dry gas, and it would likely connect to the Houston processing and fractionation facility via pipeline.
