The water was contaminated after all.
According to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette PowerSource, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection didn’t use complete test information in determining whether or not a water well in Washington County was contaminated from a wastewater impoundment and drill cuttings pit.
The wastewater impoundment and drill cuttings pit belong to Range Resources. The company denied contaminating the water, and was supported by the DEP’s findings.
Now, however, the DEP has admitted to not releasing all of its findings dating back to 2010 and 2011. The DEP closed five Range Resources wastewater impoundments in Washington County and also issued the company a $4.15 million penalty.
