The Akron Beacon Journal reports that Stark State College opened its Well Site Training Center located in downtown Canton.
This expansion project features a training lab that allows students to use hands-on experience to learn about the oil and gas industry. In addition to the Well Site Training Center, a satellite center in downtown Canton was purchased. The facility will open in spring 2015.
Stark State is one of four colleges that received grant money to develop a shale oil and gas program. Six oil and gas companies are also partners in the project, helping to create certificate, associate and bachelor’s degree programs for jobs in the shale industry.
From The Akron Beacon Journal:
“Stark State is part of a four-college consortium funded through a $14.9 million U.S. Department of Labor grant to develop and implement the first-ever national curriculum for shale oil and gas.”
