Western Pennsylvania officials optimistic about future of Marcellus gas

The Marcellus shale gas industry may be in a slump now, but western Pennsylvania officials say it will come back.

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that in Westmoreland, Fayette and Washington counties, where natural gas drilling created jobs and generated income, slowing production will pick up once more when prices increase. For now, Fayette County officials will focus on developing an economic development initiative. Westmoreland County will work on a business outreach program.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says that natural gas prices will rebound in 2017.
