What’s Fracking? Most Americans Can’t Answer the Question

It’s no secret that in 2013 America became the world’s biggest producer of oil and natural gas, according to the Energy Information Administration.

With all of the big news coming out of shale plays like Pennsylvania’s Marcellus and Ohio’s Utica, it is hard to imagine that anybody would be living under a rock (no pun intended) long enough to have skipped the shale gas boom all together.

But, according to the Associated Press and a survey conducted by Oregon State, George Mason and Yale Universities, most Americans know very little about fracking.

Read it: 

“More than half of the study’s 1,061 respondents reported knowing little or nothing of fracking. And almost 60 percent of those surveyed said they had no opinion on the subject…”
