During the first quarter of 2015, Consol Energy produced 71.6 Bcf of natural gas in the Marcellus and Utica Shales. The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register reports that in 2014, the company produced 48.4 Bcf in the Marcellus and Utica. The increase in production totals 23.2 Bcf, which is enough natural gas to power 564,108 homes for a year.
Consol’s core Marcellus activity is in Greene, Washington and Allegheny counties in Pennsylvania. In Ohio, most of the Utica activity takes place in Monroe County.
Consol used to be known for its coal production. During the first quarter of 2015, the company produced 8.3 million tons in its five Appalachian mines. Today, Consol is focused on partnering with power plants that will be in service now and in the future. Another focus is on lowering capital and operating costs.
