Earthquake prompts Hilcorp to stop fracking Pa. well

After a 1.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded near a Hilcorp Energy shale well in Mahoning Township in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, the company chose to stop fracking the well.

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that Hilcorp halted fracking at one of four wells on its North Beaver NC Development pad, which is located west of New Castle in Mahoning.

While Pennsylvania state officials have not found links between oil and gas drilling and earthquakes, the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is investigating.
