The Plain Dealer reports that the Oct. 1 deadline set by Ohio lawmakers for the state’s oil and gas severance tax changes won’t be met.

Lawmakers and industry groups were working to find a compromise for the severance tax. Industry groups oppose it, while lawmakers view it as a way to create revenue to benefit local governments and income tax cuts in the Utica and Marcellus region of Eastern Ohio.

Over the summer, a study group was created to come up with recommendations for the compromise, but with low commodity prices, the state budget bill and the need to spend more time on the recommendations, the Senate president said that the deadline is being pushed back.
