A research team from Ohio State University and West Virginia University have teamed up to drill a test well in Morgantown, at the Morgantown Industrial Park. The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register reports that the study is the first of its kind that will look at the fracking process from beginning to end.
Studying the well will provide researchers with information about environmental impacts from fracking as well as the economic impacts on communities.
So far, scientists have monitored air, noise, light and water at the well site. They will continue these assessments until the well is complete. According to the newspaper, the researchers will take 50 one-inch side-wall core samples while the well is being drilled to investigate geophysical, geochemical and microbiological properties.
