The Business Journal reports that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has ordered Kleese Development Associates of Warren to shut down five Vienna Township injection wells.

ODNR found KDA to be responsible for a spill of about 2,000 gallons of waste oil that contaminated a pond and wetland nearby the wells’ location. When ODNR’s oil and gas division was notified of the spill April 2, it traced the spill to an area near where the injection wells are located. The oil and gas division found that Kleese was in violation of Ohio law and was cited for not constructing a surface facility that would prevent pollution to soil and water.

KDA reportedly shut down its injection wells voluntarily upon discovery of the spill. The spill is being investigated, but it is suspected that the source is a storm drain located on Kleese’s property.
