The Utica Shale Academy (USA) will offer classes at Columbiana High School this fall, The Review reports. The Columbiana location will aim to serve students from the northern part of Columbiana County. The Columbiana satellite location will open this fall.
The newspaper states that USA is an opportunity for students who are not doing well or are not interested in traditional schooling as well as for students who intend to seek employment in the oil and gas field. Students receive hands-on learning and online courses that prepare them for work in the industry and for further education in the field.
USA is an open enrollment charter school operated through an agreement with the Jefferson County Educational Service Center. USA is accredited by the Ohio Department of Education.
