The Business Journal reports that an order for a Weathersfield Township injection well issued by Ohio’s Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management has been upheld by the Ohio Oil & Gas Commission.
In September 2014, small earthquakes were detected at the site of the injection well in the Trumbull County, Ohio, township, so one of the two injection wells was ordered to be shut down. The commission decided to suspend American Water Management Services LLC’s injection wells, but has not revoked the company’s permit. The decision was made because of the suspected link between the injection well and seismic activity at the site.
Injection wells store wastewater from industrial processes like oil and gas drilling. The wastewater is injected into the ground to be disposed of.
