Along the Gulf Coast in Texas and Louisiana, six ethane cracker projects that will use Utica and Marcellus shale gas are underway.

The ethane cracker proposed earlier this year in the Utica and Marcellus shales may or may not be built in Belmont County, but according to The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register, ethane from the region could top 590,000 barrels a day in five years.

PTT Global Chemical, the Thai firm behind the plans for the ethane cracker, plans to spend at least $100 million for design plans and engineering of the plant. The company wants to build the plant on 500 acres near the Ohio River in Belmont County.
