On Aug. 13, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted ruled that a charter amendment question to ban fracking within city limits will not appear on the November ballot, according to The Business Journal.
The ruling denied county charter votes to ban fracking. The communities asking for the vote include Athens, Fulton and Medina counties. Putting the questions on the ballot would have been in violation of Ohio state law.
In May 2013, FrackFree Mahoning Valley was unsuccessful in gaining voter approval on the “Community Bill of Rights” amendment. FrackFree has asked Youngstown citizens to vote to ban fracking inside city limits five times.
Since the Aug. 13 decision, anti-fracking activists have discussed the possibility of petitioning for a constitutional amendment on the Ohio ballot that would ban fracking within city limits, The Business Journal reports.
