If enough signatures are collected, anti-fracking proposal could make it to Youngstown ballot

The Vindicator reports that Youngstown-area labor leaders and business owners don’t want an anti-fracking charter amendment on the November 3 ballot.

The anti-fracking charter amendment, known as the Community Bill of Rights by those who support it, has been turned down four times by Youngstown city voters. Those who support the amendment are working toward getting the necessary signatures that will allow it to appear on the ballot.

The amendment’s opposition argue that even if the amendment receives enough signatures to appear on the ballot, while supporters of the amendment say that even if the measure makes it on the ballot and is passed, it won’t be enforced. According to state law, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has control of fracking.
