In Youngstown, an anti-fracking charter amendment may appear on this year’s November ballot. This would be the fifth time that the issue has been on the ballot.
WKBN reports that the Youngstown City Council approved the measure Aug. 24, but it must be passed by Mahoning County Board of Elections. FrackFree Mahoning Valley has failed four times to ban oil and gas drilling within city limits.
On Aug. 13, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted ruled that a charter amendment question to ban fracking within city limits will not appear on the November ballot. The communities asking for the vote were Athens, Fulton and Medina counties.
