Marcellus and Utica Shale ethane is going to be shipped overseas to Scotland and Norway, according to Martins Ferry Times Leader.

A weekly update from the U.S. Energy Information Administration stated that the ethane will be shipped to and processed at cracker plants in the two European countries. The natural gas liquid will be drawn from Marcellus and Utica Shale in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The ethane will be transported across Pennsylvania via the Sunoco Mariner East 1 pipeline to the Marcus Hook Industrial Center on the eastern side of the state before being transported across the ocean.

Locally, several ethane cracker plants have been proposed. One of the plants has been proposed in Belmont County, Ohio, while another is being considered in Monaca, Pennsylvania. A third ethane cracker could be located near Parkersburg, West Virginia.
