West Virginia University is putting itself — as well as the Mountaineer state — on the map with its Marcellus Shale Energy Environmental Laboratory (MSEEL). The Exponent Telegram reports that the fracking research project should lead the way globally in terms of shale technology.
In collaboration with Ohio State University, the National Energy Technology Laboratory and Northeast Natural Energy, WVU’s project includes two production wells and one scientific observation well. One of the study’s focuses is on fracking’s impact on water quality.
According to the source, data from the wells will be public so that researchers can improve fracking processes.
